The Umbrella - Jose Jimenez Aranda (1837-1903)

Jose Jimenez Aranda (1837-1903) is a painter, Spanish, born and died in Seville.
A prolific painter, his talent flourishes as well in genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, drawing ... and recognized by institutions.
He was a member of the Academies of Madrid, Seville, London and Berlin.

A student of the School of Fine Arts in Seville, in 1864 he obtained an honorable mention from the Society of Fine Arts of Madrid.
He participates and wins many medals in the Salons of London, Munich, Vienna, Berlin, and even Chicago.

From 1872 to 1875, he worked in Rome, Paris then moved to Seville. It was recomposed with a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
Our work is quite particular by its framing.
The young woman on horseback is represented only by her parasol and the hem of her dress. In the background, behind the window, the viewer can catch a glimpse of the smiling face of a young girl.

The painting is not signed. But on the left side, a chair is present with an easily identifiable newspaper "La Espereanza". We find exactly the same motif in other paintings by the painter
