Madonna and Child and Merry Cherubs
Domenico Piola (Genoa 1627-1703)
Large oil painting on canvas depicting the Virgin and Child and three festive cherubs eager to adore her.
The particular finesse and the warm and luminous colors lead to locate it in the Genoese production of the second half of the 17th century and more precisely in the workshop of the great master Domenico Piola (Genoa 1627-1703)
The work is obviously of exquisite workmanship and expresses with extreme elegance the pictorial characteristics of the Genoese Baroque, one of the most important artistic movements of the Italian painting scene of the 17th century.
Piola was an excellent performer with his friend and teacher Valerio Castello
