Offered by Matthew Holder
A Nottingham alabaster of a male Saint.
English, early 15th century.
Measures 25cm high excluding its later stand.
Originally a flanking figure from a grand alabaster altarpiece that would most likely have depicted scenes from the life of Christ.
Although his main attribute is now missing, there is a remnant of a curved tip by the feet which resembles the sword of Saint Paul in a similar alabaster relief in the collection of the V&A, accession number: A.133-1946.
