Offered by La Crédence
Athena, goddess of war, wisdom, strategy and inventions, patroness of heroes, of craftsmen as well as arts and letters. She was considered the patroness of several cities in Greece, including Athens.
She has in general several attributes; the shield, the spear, the helmet, the vine shoot, the snake, and the winged victory.
The left hand on her helmet decorated with a gilt crest, placed near the hilt of her sword, she is dressed in a large red-rosé drapery passed over her breastplate. To her right, in the shadow, we can see a caduceus.
Oil on canvas, some old restorations and wears (it is currently in our workshop for restoration)
19th century gilt wood frame that covers the canvas a little.
A handwritten document of Jacques Maroger (1884-1962), researcher and technical director of the laboratory of the Louvre Museum (1935-1937) attributing the work to the school of Titian, is along with the painting.
