Portrait of a young boy
Oil on canvas
H. 84 cm; L. 70 cm
Provenance: Señor Valdes Fauri Collection, Madrid around 1900/1950; then Private collection, Bordeaux
This young boy is dressed in a suit whose trousers and waistcoat seek to resemble each other by their color of his blue eyes, drawing towards gray. The tie tied around a very wide collar was certainly chosen for the same color combination, as for the jacket, it contrasts the whole to give a certain depth to this touching composition. Arranged three quarters, this child turns his face away so as not to meet the gaze of the spectator, something quite rare in the portraits of this period. He is leaning on the back of a chair and holds under his crossed hands, an important bound work of which the red edge emerges on the right.
