Oil on panel ,
Animated street probably Paris, under the snow
by Etienne Maxime VALLEE
1853-1881
Etienne-Maxime Vallée was a member of the Barbizon School and exhibited his paintings at the Salon from 1873 onwards, notably views of Paris, Brittany, Normandy and the forest of Fontainebleau. He participated regularly in the Salon until 1881, the year of his death.
The painter renders here the snow effect in an incredible way,
with certain parts of the painting painted with a thicker touch in the form of small balls.
Giving the impression that the snow is really falling on the characters
