Pupil of Tony Robert-Fleury and Bouguereau, Cabane regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Français, obtaining several awards and becoming out of competition in 1907.
He will marry in Paris in 1887, Mademoiselle Lucie Marie Perreault, daughter of Léon Basile Gratien Perreault (1832-1908), painter and close friend of Bouguereau.
Very famous for his portraits of women and children, Cabane offers us here an excellent example of his art.
Work carried out in the first part of his career (32 years in 1889) while the artist has already exhibited many portraits since his first Salon in 1876 and obtained his second Grand Prix de Rome for Painting in 1884 with an ancient subject The oath of Brutus, Cabane has definitely established its style and is beginning to be more than recognized in good society for its academic qualities, even as here almost photographic.
