A very fine Empire gilt bronze mounted mahogany console with original marble top, by Jacob-Desmalter et Cie. stamped IACOB
Paris, date circa 1820-25
Height 96 cm, length 131 cm, depth 50 cm.
From 1803–1813 the celebrated firm of Jacob-Desmalter was run by George Jacob 1(1839–1814) and his son, François-Honoré-Georges Jacob (1770–1841), known as Jacob-Desmalter. The latter changed the firm’s stamp (but not its name) when his father retired in 1813 and from that date until 1825 he used the same marking as appears on this particular piece.
