Sculpture representing Saint Anne and the Virgin Mary child.
Work from the centre of France, polychrome walnut wood.
Anne is represented seated on a throne, holding a book on her left and on her right leg the crowned virgin child.
She is depicted as an older woman wearing a veil, with a light headband around her forehead and a goatee on her chin.
There is a gothic fold in the lower part of the costume.
Our sculpture is positioned in a transitional period of the Virgin's education, as the book symbolising knowledge is still closed.
Height 49cm, base 24x18cm
