Louis XVI mirror carved and gilded lime wood burnished and amati. Rectangular in shape, this mirror consists of a main mirror set with mirrors fixed on a frame in maritime pine. All the mirrors are original and mercury. Decorated laterally with two large linary brackets with scrolls of quadrilateral Greeks, decorated with garlands of rose petals, sunflower buds or other acanthus and topped with cassolettes; horizontally joined by reserves centered on a foliage flower. The pediment receives in the middle a vase covered with Greek set with garlands of flowers. The base horizontally low receives as for it, a wicker basket overflowing with daisy, peony and other foliage; the whole resting on two small feet of foliage flowers. The main mirror as well as the mirrors are made of a flat glass plate lined with tin and lead immersed in a mercury bath in order to dissolve them. The tin associated with the lead gives then this hot and luminous side to the mirror known as "with mercury". It is to note the delicacy, the finesse and the nervousness of execution of this mirror halfway between the Greek and neoclassical styles, from the Louis XVI period around 1780-1785. Observation: This mirror is in a fabulous state of preservation, totally original. A simple cleaning of the gilded wood has been practiced in the rules of art. Dimensions: height 120.8 - width 71cm.
