Delicate limewood sculpture that represents the coronation of Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven by God the Father and Jesus. Detailed sculpting of the faces, hair and of the complex draping of the robes. In central position: serene Mary, kneeling upon clouds with open cloak over the shoulders as wings of a butterfly. Interesting composition and usage of the open cloak of the Virgin as a quiet counterpoint for the complex folding in the robes of God and Jesus. The triangular shape, moreover, draws the attention of the viewer towards the central point: the face of Mary and the crown. Excellent carving. Beginning of the 16th century, probably Lower Saxony. Wear and minor losses but overall good condition. On a metal stand.
Dimensions: 33x24x6cm.
