Massive and powerful walnut lion sculpture as a bearer for a large and luxurious piece of Italian furniture (chest or cabinet). Fierce look to deter potential assailants. Beautifully elaborated manes in the neck and on the chest. A small flat surface has been sculpted with a 90 degree angle on the back of the lion in order to support a corner of the furniture as a stylobate lion. Wear, small losses, crack on the back, traces of xylophagi. Beautiful shiny dark patination.
