Gustave Vidal, Fisherman's house on the pond of Biguglia Corse.
Gustave Vidal, 1895-1966. Oil on panel signed lower right, titled on the back. In this work all the technique and virtuosity of the Avignon master is heightened. He sets the scene, the moment, the season and the place. Whether it is through the white stone of the house bathed in sunlight with closed vollets in order to preserve a semblance of freshness, everything seems to communicate to us the heat of the sun at its zenith in an azure sky of the beginning of summer at the edge of the pond of Biguglia in Corsica.
Born in 1895 in Avignon, Gustave VIDAL is a landscape and marine painter. Laureate of the Fine Arts of Avignon where he obtained numerous awards. He participates in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he is a member. He painted landscapes of Provence, Camargue and Corsica. As this oil attests, today it is undoubtedly one of the best great Provencal landscapers of the early twentieth century. An excellent colourist, he models the dough with a knife like no one before; like a mason he constructs his canvases in three dimensions. Compositions always of an admirable balance. VIDAL's painting is alive and above all so terribly Provençal. Oil in superb condition perfectly restored, cleaning and varnish carried out according to the rules of the art. Period setting.
