Pair of large torchiere door harnesses in carved, lacquered and gilded wood from the Louis XIV period. This elegant pair of all-sided saddles is in finely molded, carved, lacquered faux marble, then gilded in Italian style to accentuate its relief. It is composed in three sections; a tripod base, a ringed shaft and a polylobed head. -The base of pyramidal shape in hemicycle comes in three concave faces resting on skates raised up acanthus. -The barrel is made up of a succession of stripes of acanthus leaves, enhanced by a charming trilogy of winged cherub's head in a round of very prominent hump, deep gorges, bulb hollowed out of gadroons adorned with choke rings and balusters raised palmettes in the shape of stylized foliage, pinch of oval rings. -The head, is that in it consists of a highly multi-lobed flat plate with a sausage profile overhanging a stepped apron with pronounced fretwork adorned with multiple florets. It should be noted that the way in which all these ornaments are treated contributes as much as their choice to the richness effect of this pair of harnesses. The sculpture is painful of vigor, of a sure balance, full of strength characteristic of the canons of the decorative arts dear to the first decades of the Enlightenment. Work of the Italian decorative arts of the north probably of Emilia Romagna from the beginning of the 18th century; period in which the triumph of classicism is characterized, essentially geometric and perfectly symmetrical.
