Decorative art from 18th to 20th century
Table en bronze, plateau en marbre portor.
Copie d’un modèle antique identique provenant de Pompéi représentant une Victoire tenant les armes de Jupiter conservé au musée archéologique de Naples.
This model comes from Pompeii archaeological site which was discovered in 1748. The artefacts from Pompeii and Herculanum excavations lead to the promotion of the taste for the antique style and the creation of antique inspired objects.
These objects were ordered by the Grand Tour travelers who brought them back to their country as a souvenir. The visit of antiques sites such as Pompeii and Herculanum was considered as essential for the education of the young artistocrats.
A table identical to this one is displayed inside the marble room of the Villa Kerylos.
