Gustave Jacquet is a pupil of William Bouguereau and begins at the Salon of 1865. He is known as a painter of female portrait and genre scene in the style of the 18th century.
From 1865 to 1910 he participated in the painting salons. He won the first class medal several times.
The painting that we are presenting is entitled "La paysanne" and was exhibited in Hors Concours at the 1876 Salon under number 1085.
