The oeuvre – with her twin depicting Louis XV – was an order of the directeur général des Bâtiments du Roi, Duke d’Antin, in 1725, in order to decorate is Petit-Bourg castel garden. The two statues were after the death of the Duke in Versailles.
During the first third of 18th century, this kind of portrait was a trend, as for example in the paintings of Largillierre and Nattier.
