Empire clock bearing the hallmark of the "japy brothers" house

This gilt bronze clock takes the shape of a basket.
It bears the punch "JAPY FRERES & Cie" - MEDAL of Honor 1855
The enamelled dial is set with elegant roses.
The octagonal base is decorated with a branch of mistletoe and two butterflies.

Historical annecdote
For more than a century the Japy family has created an industrial empire of watchmaking and hardware, in the territory of Belfort. Founded at the end of the 18th century, Japy Frères was the second largest French company, in terms of capital, during the Second Empire.
Nearly 5,000 workers worked in Japy factories at the end of the 19th century.
