Giovanni Maggi published in 1604 two models of similar bowls in the first book of his work Bichierografia and Cecco del Caravaggio, circa 1615-1620, represented one in his portrait of a flute player with a still life (Ashmolean Museum,Oxford).
Other bowls of this shape with a blue bulb are preserved in museums with large glass collection, such as the Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg in Coburg, the Kunstgewerbe Museum in Berlin and the Correr Museum in Venice.
However, our bowl is the only one known to date with a faceted decoration.
