Christ as 'Salvator Mundi'. Beautiful soft facial expression. Painted surface gorgeously crackled. Flemish renaissance (or Italo-Flemish: i.e. either a Flemish painter who had worked in Italian workshops or an Italian painter who he'd been working in Flemish workshops) around 1550. Painted on baltic oak panel (4mm) as was typical for Flemish painters since the 15th century. The 4 extremities of the panel are later additions (19th cent?) in order to change the original rectangular form into an oval form. Central part with face is untouched. Some parts of the backside have been polished but luckily the greater parts of the backside are untouched. Very good conservation. Restorations in the lower part of the panel (the inferior part of the hands, one of the 4 later additions) and probably early (because not visible on UV) restoration to the hair.
Relatively tall: 52,5 x 40,5 cm.
