European Works of Art from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIth century
Fantastic pair of Renaissance high relief carved walnut panels, created during the first decades of the XVIth century.
In both cases, the composition is structured around a central medallion, held on both sides by elegant grotesque male and female figures, three of which with a naked torso. The first medallion features a profile bearded male bust wearing a roman tunic and a laurels crown on his head. The other medallion represents an female profile portrait, wearing an elegant and sophisticated headdress typical of 1520-30's fashion. The rest of the composition is surrounded with abundant and finely carved arabesque ornaments with vegetal motifs and bunches of fruits such as grapes and strawberries. Superb carving quality.
Superb carving quality and excelent condition of the set.
Dimensions: 3,5 x 47 x 26 cm each.
