European Works of Art from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIth century
Magnificent pair of Spanish desk scissors, profusely decorated with vegetal and zoomorphic engraved motifs, dated in 1692, signed, with origin incription "ANTº XIMENEZ EN ALBAZETE" and with property inscription "SOI DE Dn DIEGO IGNACIO DE SOR...".
The city of Albacete, in the kingdom of Castile, was the main Spanish centre of knives and scissors production, mainly between the XVIIth and XIXth centuries. The best desk scissoors from Albacete started to be signed during the XVIIIth century, but dated XVIIth century pieces are rare.
Condition: Excelent. Tiny loss in one of the rings.
