Two 'Animae Solae' or 'Lonely Souls' burning in Purgatory. Their pitiful condition is temporary (as opposed to those in hell): they are praying to be saved by the prayers of us, mortals, as well as by a Divine intervention. Rare to find the male and female sculpture together. Carved in light poplar wood. Good condition. Both figures are loose on a recent oak stand. Height (without stand): 14cm.
