Barrel lock in sculpted wood, France, XVIIIth century

Barrel lock sculpted in natural wood, representing a recumbent lion, probably created in Alsace. Decorated barrel locks usually showed motifs such as grapes, wine leaves, dolphins or mermaids, the lion being therefore quite a rare characteristic in this case.

Condition: small brake at the lower jaw and at the end of the tail. Beautiful patina.
