Born May 21, 1896 in Bormes-les-Mimosas; Died on January 8, 1993 in Paris. Twentieth century.
Painter of compositions with characters, portraits, still lifes, animated landscapes, watercolourist, painter of mural compositions.
Then suffering from an illness, he meets Roger de la Fresnaye who will open the doors of the middle. It may be dated from this meeting and its rise in Paris, a portrait "The Portrait of Peggy Guggenheim" of 1927.
His world will not cease to vary between realism and cubism, Courmes not wishing to be limited. Always in connection with the masters of the past but also with the popular imagery of his time, make Courmes a forerunner of many formal inventions of the figuration of the sixties.
He participated in numerous group exhibitions, at the Salon des Indépendants, Tuileries, Beaux-Arts, at the first Salon des Jeunes Artistes after the war of 39-45.
