Saint John the Baptist is the last prophet of the Old Testament and known as the forerunner of Jesus Christ. The saint is represented here standing on a pedestal. He holds the lamb in his left hand, which is referred to in two passages of the Gospel of John. Here John points to Jesus Christ and his fate: "Behold, the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world."
According to Christian faith, St. John is said to have baptized Jesus in Jordan.
The St. John's Day is celebrated in the Catholic Church on June 24 and falls on the birthday of the saint.
Good state of preservation, partial adjustments in the version.
