French Furniture and Art Pieces of the 18th century and Empire period
A big pair of scones in gilt bronze of the Empire period.
A cariatide "in the antique style" sheath holds 4 arms of lights. The front part of the wall chandelier represents an old man's head, the back part is decorated with griffins.
Claude Galle delivers in 1808 an identical pair for the Château de Compiègne and for the furniture guard (Mobilier National). A pair (with a finer chiseling) was delivered by merchant Darrac in 1809 for the bedroom of the Empress's apartment at the Rohan Palace in Strasbourg. The pair of scones has an inventory number 41922 and a GM mark.
Condition Report: Traces of use on the gilding, the central part was formerly patinated, 2 screws changed.
