French Furniture and Art Pieces of the 18th century and Empire period
Rare little architect table called "à la Tronchin" in satinwood and mahogany. It can enlarged by two side zippers and opens to a belt drawer revealing a writing desk and a mobile receptacle. Feet ending with lion claws and the two anterior feet sumptuously carved of caryatids.
This unique prototype of its kind was delivered by Jacob Frères circa 1800 for Jean-François Heurtier, famous architect. We find the same woods on the furniture delivered, at the same period, by Jacob brothers to Madame de Recamier.
This table is illustrated on page 52 of the book: Chantal Bizot. Mobilier Directoire Empire, Paris, ed Massin.
Condition report: restored in our workshop in March-April 2017. Perfect state, revised mechanism, varnish to buffer. The leather of the tray has been changed, possibility of changing also the pulls and the writing desk. Trace of ancient restorations
