In a career in front of the stables, riders perfected the art of riding. Assisted by instructors walk, they pitch up their mounts.
The scene is lively; a falconer on horseback comments on the exploits of his master, a child tries to catch a goat leaking in the foreground, a conversation couple walking with his child.
Spectators sat on a wall watching.
Many clouds stretch in a blue sky. This element the sky is still very present in the compositions of the "equestrian painter" of Dutch Golden Century.
Our painting is similar to the work "Riding School" at the Museum of Fine Art in Budapest or one of the same name at the Mauritshuis in The Hague.

Condition: Very good condition. old restorations. Two small slits 5 cm at the bottom right. Reinforcements butterflies at the back of the panel.
Philips Wouwerman (Haarlem 1619 - id 1668) studied painting with his father, then in the studio of Frans Hals. His preferred subjects depict horses (The halt of the riders, the Royal Museum of Antwerp - the horse market, The Wallace Collection, London). He painted many battles, hunts or cavalcades.
The delicacy of his touch, his sense of observation and his taste for the anecdote testify to his mastery in painting outdoor scenes.
Philips Wouwerman is a prolific artist who knows his lifetime a great success. In the following century, its production, particularly popular, rich collections of European princes. Today we find his works in the most prestigious museums: the Hermitage, the Louvre or the Prado.
