A richly carved natural oak wall console. Its waistband is adorned with an openwork rosette surrounded by foliate scrolls. It rests on two confronted scrolled legs, carved with shells, scrolls and twists. The legs are linked by an arched spacer decorated with a plant motif, which is connected to the belt by a similarly carved upright.
This is a Parisian work executed in the first quarter of the 18th century. Its elegance lies in the accuracy and balance of its proportions. The carving is abundant without being overbearing. This type of console, where the influence of the reign of Louis XIV is still clearly visible, is much rarer than the Louis XV consoles that were produced in very large numbers from 1740 onwards.
This console is topped with a beautiful white-veined brown/green Italian marble. The console is in very good condition and has been perfectly restored.
