Offered by Antichità San Felice
Neoclassical bust in white Carrara marble depicting the Venus de Medici, Italy, 19th century.
Exquisitely crafted, it belongs to the tradition of reproducing classical masterpieces born in Rome and Florence with the beginning of the "Grand Tour", an initiatory journey of rich young Europeans and young artists who set out for Italy to discover its wonders. The bust we present, very close to the only known Roman copy of the Greek masterpiece "La Vénus de Médicis", invariably evokes the five copies that Louis XVI had ordered for the Palace of Versailles.
Excellent state of preservation.
