19th & 20th century decorative arts.
Side table composed of a bamboo stem base and a lacquer top.
The foot is made up of bamboo stems ending in their polished and sculpted root. The four-branched tray support responds staggered to the base which evokes stylized legs enriched with inflections. The whole, very graphic, supports a two-part black square top decorated with swallows which emphasizes the contrasting treatment of the material.
French work from the end of the 19th century which responds to the craze for Japanese furniture of this period, spearheaded by Gabriel Viardot and Maison Perret & Vibert.
