Allegory of Peace invited by Lust - Italian school, 17th century

Pen, brown ink and gouache on wove paper.
Peace, embodied by the helmeted Minerva brandishing an olive branch, is invited by Lust, represented by a turbaned woman, to join a bacchanal. These double allegories have been commonplace in European art since the Renaissance.

Under a marie-louise, anti-reflective and UV-resistant glass, set with a Bérain-style baguette.
Dimensions: 20 x 26 cm - 39.5 x 46.5 cm with frame
