“Bonheur-du-jour” stamped by Charles Topino Transitional Period

Very beautiful happiness of the day stamped by Charles Topino.

Made with meticulous care, it is decorated with precious woods such as rosewood, stained sycamore, amaranth, hornbeam and elm, testifying to the exceptional know-how of the craftsman.

The upper part, elegantly topped with an openwork gallery in chiseled and gilded bronze, opens onto a central niche flanked on either side by two doors decorated with flowered vases, a characteristic motif of the neoclassical era, and a thin central drawer.

Under these elements, a semi-circular top displays a marquetry of great finesse, where musical scores, books and bouquets of flowers intertwine in a harmonious composition. The inlaid decoration follows the circular shape and is framed by a fine elm and rosewood fillet surrounded by a gilded bronze ingot mold.

The belt forming a drawer incorporates a writing tablet covered in green leather decorated with a delicate gilded net and a set of three pieces in gilded metal forming a writing set. Gilded bronze keyhole decorated with ribbon and garland.

The happiness of the day being a small piece of utilitarian ceremonial furniture, it is important to be able to move it around the room, the back therefore does not escape ornamentation: teapots and carefully inlaid vases bring a touch of sophistication.

The whole rests on fine curved uprights with finely worked gilded bronze falls decorated with foliage and garlands.
The legs are joined by an elegant indented spacer shelf, enriched with a decoration representing an inkwell, an envelope and writing accessories and surrounded by a gilded bronze ingot mold.
They are decorated with enveloping shoes decorated with foliage which end on fine casters, making it easier to move the furniture.

A rare and refined piece, this joy of the day embodies the refined taste of the 18th century, brilliantly combining functionality and luxurious aesthetics. It is an ode to French art at the end of the century, combining decorative beauty and technical ingenuity.

Charles Topino, qualified as a master in 1773, is one of the most talented cabinetmakers of the Louis XVI period. He stands out in particular for the exceptional quality of his creations. His production was very varied, but is particularly distinguished by a refined and poetic style where floral decorations, musical instruments and scenes of everyday objects are represented with precision and delicacy.

Unlike other cabinetmakers, who specialize in furniture of all sizes, Topino concentrates mainly on elegant and functional pieces, he particularly likes small pieces of furniture such as flying tables or joies-du-jour. . The latter are always in the form of a rectangular or ellipsoidal plan. The quality of his furniture and the marquetry work make his furniture works of great collection that can be found in the Louvre or the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, for example.

Dimensions: H 91 cm x W 60 cm x D 40 cm

Our happiness of the day is referenced on page 882 of the very famous French furniture of the 18th century by Pierre Kjellberg, amateur edition of 2008, as a reference model of TOPINO furniture.
