A Large silver mounted heart shaped rock crystal amulet.
German, 17th century.
Measures 10 x 5.5 x 1.2cm.
This rare form of amulet was worn to scare away ill fortune particularly from children and mothers, they were referred to as ‘Fright’ or ‘Scare stones’.??The heart shaped piece of rock crystal is mounted in a dogs tooth setting supported by a rope twist frame. The amulet is highly polished to each side displaying the almost flawless purity of the rock crystal. A silver mounted rose quartz drop is suspended from the bottom of the amulet.
There is a small later duty mark to the pendant bail.
