Amor and Psych, large Figure In Gustavsberg Biscuit after J. T. Sergel

This important bisque figure in Gustavsberg bisque is a faithful reduction of the famous marble statue by Johan Tobias Sergel, the most important Swedish sculptor of the Gustavian period. The original stand in the Royal Palace in Stockholm and a replica is in the Prado in Madrid. This composition captures the flight of Cupid, who spreads his wings at the moment when Psyche tries to hold him back. He must disappear, because Psyche, defying the ban, had discovered his identity.
