Table mirror
Cut crystal and ormolu bronze
Dimensions: H. 37; W. 19 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1820
Rare table mirror or psyche with removable mirror. It stands on three zoomorphic feet. Circular base in finely knurled bronze. Finely chased flower garland on top. Column-shaped shaft in cut crystal with a wheel of crossed stripes, surmounted by an antique-style bust of a woman. Circular glass completely encircled by bronze, also knurled.
This type of production can be compared with the numerous mounted crystal objects from the Vonêche, Baccarat, Le Creusot and Montcenis factories, sold in Parisian boutiques between 1810 and 1830. This fashion culminated in 1819 with the presentation by the Veuve Desarnaud at the Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie Française of an incredible meuble toilette and its armchair, now in the Musée du Louvre.
Condition report: original gilding with minor wear, very fine burnishing, excellent condition.
