Albert Bergevin 1887-1974
The son of an antique dealer, Albert Bergevin was born in Avranches, Normandy.
From 1903, he was a regular visitor to Paris, where he studied with Louis Lavalley (Prix de Rome), Julian, Ranson and the École des Beaux-Arts.
Through the teachings of Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier, he rubbed shoulders with the great names of early twentieth-century painting. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants in 1910.
In the post-war years, he again exhibited regularly at the Salon d “Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, as well as abroad (notably in Japan).
In 1928, Bergevin returned to his home town and settled there permanently with his wife.
Bergevin's frank, uncluttered painting is part of the Post-Impressionist movement, inspired by the great names of his time.
