Pedestal table by Jean-Jospeh Chapuis.
Dark green (chimera body) and light (reeds), gilded and polished mahogany patinated wood. It rests on three volute feet ending in chimera heads and decorated in the center with reeds and a rope; Directoire molded black granite top.
A close example exists at the Palais Royal in Laeken.
This model of pedestal table is very rare and it is probably the most remarkable from Chapuis.
For strength, Chapuis was the first to use slices of wood in different directions, which allows for an extremely light structure.
The granite shelf is molded below and recessed in the center above. Which gives it an extremely fine impression, in the mind of the board.
The pedestal table seems to hover on its three casters which keep it at a very light height.
The foliage is extraordinarily fine and only a few millimeters in size.
