These miniature chests, inspired by Hasami-Bako travel trunks, have a rectangular shape. Their surfaces are meticulously adorned with hiramaki-e, a raised gold lacquer technique, depicting stylized foliage and vine patterns. Finely engraved gilt metal fittings, known as nanako, embellish the corners and clasps, adding an elegant touch. The lids and sides feature a mon (stylized family crest), characteristic of pieces made for noble families.
The interior, perfectly preserved, includes a black lacquer tray with a gilded rim and retains its original paper lining, showcasing their remarkable state of conservation. These miniature chests were not merely decorative boxes but were used as ornaments during the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival), which explains their excellent condition.
Dimensions : 9.5 x 14 x 9 cm.
