Rare Japanese fresh water pot, used for the tea ceremony dating from the early 19th century.
Square in shape and rustic in appearance, it is made of dark Shigaraki clay and has a rough texture, marked by numerous cracks and impurities. The body is partially covered with a milky and greenish glaze from the natural ash during firing.
The shape was probably turned, then adjusted and shaped using a bat. The lid, made of black lacquered wood, fits perfectly to the opening of the container.
This type of object was used for the tea ceremony. A kintsugi restoration on one side shows the great appreciation given to this very rare object.
17cm high without the handle of the cover.
