Germany second half of the nineteenth century.
A nineteenth century Saxon porcelain chandelier with twelve arms. The chandelier is decorated with flowers, garlands and cherubs in polychrome porcelain. A total of nine cherubs stand above the chandelier. Six cherubs are seated holding a garland of flowers, while three cherubs dance in a crown around the top of the chandelier, which is surrounded by garlands of flowers. A bouquet of flowers in a water lily hangs from each arm of the chandelier.
This chandelier, comparable to the chandeliers in the palaces of Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886), is of exceptional quality and rare finesse.
This type of chandelier is extremely fragile and few have survived in such good condition.
