Offered by Antichità San Felice
Mercury-gilt bronze Empire clock depicting "Hebe and Jupiter's eagle". France, early 19th century.
A rare model of exceptional quality, it is inspired by the theme of Hebe offering the cup of eternal youth to her father Jupiter, seated next to her in the guise of an eagle. The patinated and gilded bronze base, hexagonal in shape, supported by six feet, from which rises the bas-relief depicting a young Bacchus with the goat and the putti who supports the movement on which the goddess is seated belongs to the oldest models, on horseback. between the Directoire and the Empire: the large cut mechanism below confirms this. The mercury gilding which alternates between shiny and matt is authentic, of exceptional quality and well preserved; the chiseling is refined and neat down to the smallest details.
Very good condition.
