Processionnal cross with a wooden core covered with gilt copper embossed and engraved featuring a figure of Christ
15th century, Lombardy, Italie

Height: 75 cm, width: 45 cm
Height with base: 86 cm

The arms with trilobed ends are joined at the elliptical intersection, diamond checkered background with figures in strong relief: front, bust, Virgin and Saint John, an angel and Mary Magdalene; reverse: God the Father enthroned and blessing in the center, surrounded by the symbols of the Four Evangelists at the ends of the cross (the man for Saint Matthew, the eagle for Saint John, the bull for Saint Luke and the lion for Saint Mark)
Christ with head inclined on the right shoulder, short perizonium, legs bent with feet superimposed.

The structure of the cross as well as its general style associated with the decorative elements are characteristic of Lombard processional crosses, and more especially of the production of the Milanese region dating from the mid-15th century.
