Beautiful and rare ‘Al Andaluz’ walnut box with geometric designs inlaid with bone. Mudejar art.
early 16th century
Probably made by Muslim craftsmen who remained in Spain after the Arabs surrendered in 1492, following in the footsteps of the Mudejar style.
This type of chest can be found in major public and private collections such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York and various major Spanish museums (Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid).
