Expertise Prof. Ferdinando Arisi

Splendid coastal landscape particularly lively, full of views and scenes in a port context.
The depth that the talented author manages to give to this magnificent composition is truly remarkable.
The work is characterized by the contrast between the shadowy areas in the foreground, teeming with characters and boats, and the bright background of the coast with the clear sky.
The ruins of a turreted fortress stand out as protagonists in the glow of a fantastic atmosphere.

There are clear references to the famous seascapes of Salvator Rosa, revisited in an eighteenth-nineteenth century style, which the Author wants to pay homage to

There are clear references to the famous seascapes revisited in an eighteenth-nineteenth century style by Salvator Rosa, which the Author wants to pay homage to with this work.
It is a very fascinating painting executed in an excellent manner by the famous Dutch master Abraham Teerlink, whose works are exhibited in various museums in Europe, first of all the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Biography of the author taken from Wikipedia:

Abraham Teerlink (Dordrecht, November 5, 1776) - Rome, May 26, 1857 or July 1857) was a painter of the 19th century originally from the north of the Low Countries.

After becoming interested in the arts, he ended up with Michiel Versteegh and later with J. Kelderman and Arie Lamme.

The commentary on copies of the works of famous artists (under the supervision of the mentioned tutors), has always been developed in such a way that the artist pays tribute, with six compositions paysagères représentant du bétail.

In 1807, he won the Prix de Rome as one of the three young men of Hollande Royale, thus receiving an allocation from Royal Louis Napoléon III to travel and study in Paris and Rome.

Il part deux ans à Paris puis à Rome.

In Paris, he spent one year copying and studying the paintings of the Louvre and the Academy under the direction of the famous professor Jacques-Louis David.

He then settled in Rome where he was ready to find work in 1809 and remained longer than ever.

Indeed, in 1810, it was finally installed in Rome, continuing to participate in art competitions in the North. In 1836, he appointed the artist Anna Muschi and, in 1839, he was named chevalier of the Order of the Dutch Lion by the Royal Guillaume Ier des Pays-Bas.

Teerlink has never returned to Hollande, but has seen the works of his exhibitions in the Pays-Bas, and here he has a large reconnaissance. In Rome, the devient professeur des beaux-arts. He was also named an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and other Italian academies.
