A Set of Four Cast Bronze Figures of the Four Evangelists

Cast in the round and patinated. Minor wear to the patina. Mounted on a porphyry plinths. Height 25.5 cm (without plinth); (29 cm with plinth)


Cobaert (or Cobbaert was born in Edingen in the Southern Netherlands around 1535 as the son of the goldsmith Cornelis Cobaert. He travelled to Rome several times, where he worked in the studio of Della Porta. Cobaert died in Rome in 1615, where he was born on the Campo Santo dei Teutonici e dei Fiamminghi.

This is a set of the four Evangelists, St Luke, St Mark, St John and St Matthew, with their respective attributes.

Good condition and attractively mounted on porphyry plinths.
