Seven miniatures of documented gems attributed to Thomas Worlidge (c.1700?1

A collection of seven watercolour miniatures of documented gems attributed to Thomas Worlidge (c.1700?1766).

English, late 18th century.

Each miniature is set in their original glazed gilt metal mounts and set into a later ebonised wood frame.

The miniatures each measure approximately 6.5/7.4 x 5.3/5.7cm within their gilt metal frames.

The ebonised wooden frame measures 32 x 28cm.

Six out of the seven gems are illustrated in ‘Antique gems etched by Worlidge on copper-plates, in the possession of Sheffield Grace, Esq., F. S. A.’, London, 1823. The only gem not illustrated is the Minerva gem in the top left. The gems are each from the Marlborough, Bessborough, Lord Carlisle, Hope, Armitage or Duane collections.
