Very large black lacquered wooden Buddha, Burma, late 19th century

Very large Buddha ( 1.11m) in black lacquered carved wood with gold leaves, seated in Bhumisparsa mùdra, or gesture of taking the earth as witness.
Buddha calls upon the earth goddess to bear witness that he has defunitively overcome the fears and temptations sent by Mara, the demon of illusion, under the Bodhi tree.
