An amusing silver gilt tobacco box with a drunk man.
Dutch or German, 17th century and later.
Measures 11 x 4cm.
The silver gilt lid is decorated in high relief repoussé work and shows a gleeful man dancing away from an empty wine cask whilst clutching a purse and a wine glass, brooding clouds overhead emit a downpour of rain.
The silver gilt lid dates from the 17th century and is either Dutch or German, the copper gilt body of the box is later and dates to the 18th or 19th century.
